Homework Tips

Reading books

Sharing your childs reading book should be done in a quiet and relaxing way. To begin with talk about the front cover discussing what they think the story will be about and talking about the title. As you work through the book encourage your child to talk about the pictures and develop their own story adding details and sharing their own experiences. Ensure they turn the pages correctly and understand to track across the page from left to right.

You could challenge them to find objects within a picture or items that begin with certain sounds.

Make sure you write in their diary when they have shared their books so we know it needs changing and aim to read with your child at least 3 times a week.
Most of all reading and sharing books at home should be fun so enjoy the time spent together.

Phonics books

Once we have begun structured phonic lessons children will be introduced to letter sounds at a rapid rate. To help them become secure practising at home is very important. We will send home a book with the weeks sounds stuck in. Please practise saying the letter sound together and forming the letter in their book. Look in the environment together and find objects that begin with that sound. The book will come home on a Friday and must be back in school on Monday ready for the next set of sounds to be added.

Challenge/homework books

Some weeks your child may bring home their challenge/homework book. This is where we will stick their homework, this maybe number work or topic based. Please spend some time completing the challenge with your child and ensure the book is returned to school on Mondays.

If you have any questions about anything please feel free to come and speak to us in the morning or after school.
