Term Dates & Important Dates: 2017/18

Keep up-to-date with the important term dates for this academic year. 
We have liaised with Leys Farm Juniors in order to agree these dates for the convenience of parents with children at both schools.

November 2015

4th November New parents meeting (nursery)/3.45p.m.

5th November Parent Consultations session 2/3.15 – 6.00

6th November Well Done assembly

Well Done assemblies take place every Friday at 9.05a.m. Everyone is welcome to come along. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available from our cook, Mrs. Hame for a very minimal cost.

Our first panto letter comes home tonight.

10th November Autumn Disco 3.15 – 4.30 Friends fundraising event.

11th November beginning at 10.45a.m. Remembrance day assembly for reception and KS1 children.  The children will stand for a one minute silence at 11.00 a.m.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

13th November ‘Children in  Need’ Well Done – this year, we are asking for family donations of loose change (coins) to cover a picture on the playground – thank you – we are then taking the children on an Autumn Ramble (wellies or stout shoes and a waterproof coat needed).

16th November Keeping Safe week: during this annual focus, the children learn about anti-bullying and road safety.

16th November Last week of clubs for this term.

17th November p.m. Year 2 go to ‘Gangsta Granny’ at the Baths Hall – much anticipated stage production which will inspire them with ideas for speaking, listening,writing and drama!

20th November a.m. – parent volunteers needed to help ‘John the gardener’ start work on our new Gruffalo garden this morning  - planting bulbs and other practical activities!

20th November p.m. – official opening of our Alice in Wonderland Nursery garden followed by a Mad Hatter’s tea party in nursery – this is a nursery parents and children event!

25th November all day ‘open craft day’ in nursery and reception for parents to pop in and enjoy making and creating.

27th November  - a.m. Cake Sale for our sponsored child, and Friends will be selling raffle tickets for the Xmas Fair – and Well Done as usual.

27th November – p.m. First dress rehearsals for Xmas concerts – look out for information and requests from your teacher, and class newsletters.

30th November – DVD filming of all Xmas concerts.

December 2015

1st  December (9.30 a.m.) Nursery/reception Christmas production (morning and start of the week nursery children).

       (1.30 p.m.) Classes 3 and 4 Christmas production.

2nd December (9.30 a.m.) Classes 3 and 4 Christmas production.

       (1.30 p.m.) Nursery/reception Christmas production (afternoon and end of week nursery children).

4th December (p.m.) Christmas Fair (doors open at 2.00p.m.) with Santa’s Grotto and Friends raffle.

8th December Autumn term Marvellous Maths day!  Open classrooms with lots of maths activities and games, and in the  afternoon a Maths Challenge in the hall for parents with their children – lots of fun!

9th December - Nursery trip to see Santa at Normanby Park!

11th December - Panto picnic dinner followed by Reception/Y1/Y2 afternoon visit to the Plowright theatre to see ‘Snow White’

12th December 10.00a.m. Carol singing at ASDA to raise funds for our School Fund.

16th December Christmas parties today!!

17th December 10.20a.m. Attendance certificates assembly (everyone welcome).

17th December p.m. End of term school visit to Holy Spirit with Rev. Lee Gabel.

18th December 8.00a.m. Breakfast with Santa! This is a ticketed event. Children only please in the main hall - there are refreshments for parents in the little hall from the kitchen.

18th December 9.05a.m. -Well Done assembly as usual, with special visitors and Christmas Hamper Raffle.

18th December – Xmas dinner.

18th December 1.30p.m. - Christingle in the school hall before we close for the Christmas holiday at Please bring any lanterns you may have at home – these and the children’s Christingle candles will be lit during this Xmas ‘get together’ – keep toddlers under safe supervision please.

Class newsletters come home every week, and we send out reminders as regularly as necessary without them being a nuisance.

In order that all children can fully participate in the life of the school, which is what we all want, please use the information that we send home to plan ahead for your child, and also to be involved yourself in parent and child activities and whole school events.  We appreciate your enthusiasm and wholehearted support for our very busy, little school.

Summer 2016

Book Chatter for babies and toddlers takes place in our library every Wednesday afternoon – why not come along and encourage other mums with tiny tots!

Well Done assemblies are every Friday beginning at 9.05a.m.  Everyone is welcome to come along!


Clubs begin this week, beginning Monday, 18th April, 2016.


Friday, 29th April – many of you will have seen the front of the Scunthorpe Telegraph last week which featured the tragic death of Paul Blanchard – we will be holding a cake stall this morning to raise money for his widow, Caroline and their two children.  Anyone wishing to make a private donation, can do so at justgiving.com/theblanchards-hollymarie.

All donations of cakes much appreciated – please support our stall on Friday morning.


Monday, 2nd May – Bank holiday Monday – school reopens Tuesday, 3rd May.


Tuesday, 10th May – Superstars (P.E.) day!  Please ensure your child’s P.E. kit is in school for this exciting day!


Wednesday, 18th May – group photos and class photos this morning – doors open at 8:30a.m.


Wednesday, 25th May – a.m. – Infant Musical Festival – all reception, year 1 and year 2 children will be attending this competition – spare seats on coaches will be offered to parents on a ‘first come first served’ basis – please look out for the information letter with permission slip which will come home next week. 

                                         -p.m. – Year 2 annual visit to Scunthorpe Central Mosque – parents have been invited to come along for the last two years, and this has proved very popular – please look out for the information letter with permission slip which will come home next week.


Friday, 27th May – Queen’s Celebration dinner at 12.00 to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Half term – during half term, rewiring  of the whole school will begin with Phase 1.  There are 6 phases in all, and you will receive information about any changes to classrooms, entrances and exits.  This project has been phased to minimise disruption to the children’s education and will be completed by the end of August, and before the beginning of the next, academic year. 


Monday, 6th June – school reopens.

Wednesday, 8th June – Year 2 swimming begins at Riddings Pool – every week for 6 weeks on Wednesday mornings.


Sunday, 12th June – a.m. - provisional date for car boot sale on the school field – there will be a survey of parents to determine interest in this fundraiser.

Monday, 13th June – school is closed for this day only, and so is Leys Farm Junior School.

Tuesday, 14th June – school reopens.


Thursday, 23rd June – Rio Olympics day – with a special, themed dinner.  Please ensure your child’s P.E. kit is in school for this exciting day!


Monday, 27th June – last week of clubs led by school staff.

Tuesday, 28th June – Marvellous Maths Morning – a family day of maths activities in the classroom and a challenge in the afternoon!


Monday, July 4th – last week of professionally-led clubs.

Friday, 8th July – Our Garden Centre is open at the beginning and the end of the day – please support the children’s efforts which end a week with a gardening focus which we hope will lead to the children gaining the Royal Horticultural Society Level 4 award.


Monday, 11th – Friday, 15th  Our first Enderby Festival of performance, singing, dance, drums and fun!

Please be aware for your diary that Year 2 will be tackling a complete performance of Joseph on the afternoon of 14th July – and the Summer Fair is the afternoon of 15th July (from 2.00p.m.)!

Tuesday, 12th July – reports come home to parents, plus information about your child’s next class and teacher.


Tuesday, 19th July – Reception, year 1 and year 2 visit Honeysuckle Farm, Hornsea – last visited three years ago, and a tremendous day out!

Important note about the Nursery trip out of school this term – Miss Brunt will be sending home letters about this term’s visit in due course.

Wednesday, 20th July – 10.00 a.m. – Attendance assembly – parents welcome.

Thursday, 21st  July – the last day of this academic year.

9.00 a.m. - morning assembly (Summer birthdays, Well Dones, raffle and Summer singalong).

12.00 p.m. – Year 2’s favourites dinner, followed if it’s sunny and warm, by whole school ‘wet play’ – children will need scruffy, play clothes including underwear , and an old towel in a named, carrier bag to change into for water fun!  There will be a designated area on the playground for this end of year special so that the children pick and choose their own level of involvement.

1.20p.m. – doors open for Y2 Farewell – a last celebration of our current Y2 children ending with a balloon launch.

School closes at 2:15p.m. on this last day.
